The 4K Chromecast with Google TV streaming stick is down to $40 at Amazon as part of the Black Friday sale. That’s a 20 percent savings, or ten bucks for the math wizards out there.
We called the 1080p version of this device a “tiny streaming dongle” and that’s certainly true of the new 4K model. It supports HDR and is compatible with almost any TV with an HDMI port. Once connected, it broadcasts over Wi-Fi.
The model also allows users to watch live TV in 4K. This works with a number of different live TV providers, such as YouTube TV, Pluto TV, Sling TV and Philo. It ships with a voice remote embedded with the Google Assistant, allowing people to bark orders about what things they want to watch.
Like most streaming sticks, users can stream content from their phones or tablets. There’s also an option to create a kid-friendly profile, complete with family-friendly content and strong parental controls.
However, there is one caveat here. This model is probably on its way out. The company appears to be prioritizing the recently released Google TV Streamer, which ditches the dongle design in favor of a wedge. This one has more storage and a faster CPU than the aforementioned dongle. The company also packed some AI into the new device because that’s what everyone has to do now. However, the Google TV Streamer costs $100. I’m going to buy a $40 Chromecast myself.
