Microsoft confirms Windows 11 24H2 update crashes some Ubisoft games

Microsoft says it is working with Ubisoft to fix an issue with the latest Windows 11 update that was affecting some games, and has stopped rolling out the update to devices with those games for now. Following user reports of problems after installing Windows 11 24H2 Update, we confirmed this weekend that some games may not respond or show a black screen. The problem is concerning Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Star Wars Outlaws again Avatar: Pandora’s Box.

Ubisoft released a temporary fix Star Wars Outlawsbut there may be some problems, says Microsoft. “To protect your Windows update information, we’ve implemented a temporary hold on devices with these games installed,” the company said in its support blog. “These devices will not be offered to install Windows 11, version 24H2 through the Windows Update release channel.” It goes on to say, “We recommend that you do not attempt to update yourself to the 24H2 version using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or media creation tool until this issue is resolved.”
