Satechi’s new hub makes one of Apple’s best devices even better

This is a small accessory sits directly under the Mac Miniso it doesn’t take up more space than your device currently uses. The Satechi stand is specially designed for the 2024 M4 Mac Mini, the current model on sale, and adds a lot of flexibility. The front of the stand has three USB-A slots for your legacy devices, and there’s an SD card slot that allows speeds of up to 10 Gbps. More importantly, all the ports are on the front of the device, so connecting your phone charger won’t be a big problem. The build quality boasts the same design as the Mac Mini, so it won’t look like you’re matching the devices.

Perhaps the biggest addition here is the ability to add an NVMe solid-state drive. Even if you spend $1399.99 on the more expensive Mac Mini, you still get a measly 512GB of storage with it. The Satechi Mac Mini stand allows you to add an additional 4TB of storage. Since the Mac Mini has a small footprint to begin with, this is a huge improvement for anyone who does heavy tasks on their computer like video editing. That’s what I’d argue is the main selling point here, but it doesn’t hurt to get more USB ports. Depending on the price, it may be worth the download even if you don’t add more storage.

Unfortunately, you can’t go to a store and pick one of these hubs up just yet, but you can secure yours when it’s officially released. Satechi’s stance is due out in spring 2025, so there’s still a lot to do. What you can do while you’re waiting is to sign up to be notified to save 20% when it goes on sale. While we don’t know how much it will sell for when it’s released, it’s fair to expect it to be somewhere in the $100 price range, considering the current models Satechi sells cost about that.

Such a value can be very good if your main object is increasing storage space. For example, going from 256 GB to 512 GB is $200 on Apple’s website. If Satechi’s stand costs $100, you can pick up a 1 TB NVMe SSD for less than $100 and get a lot more for your money than the extra ports the hub adds. Keep in mind that this won’t give your Mac Mini more power, so you’ll need to splurge for a more expensive model to upgrade like that.

If you don’t have a new Mac Mini but are still interested in the device, you can choose one of the older models from the Satechi website. This stand is compatible with the 2023 M2 and M2 Pro Mac Mini and the 2020 M1 model. It costs $100 and has the same features as those designed for the M4 model. The downside is that you will have to buy a new hub if you get a new M4 Mac Mini in the future.
